WELCOME DAYS!
We look forward to welcoming all of our new students (and those students moving from Duane Street to Hudson Street) during our spring Welcome Days. Please note that Welcome Days will occur on the following dates:
Hudson Street:
Tuesday, May 28th 3:30-6:00 p.m.
Thursday, May 30th 3:30-6:00 p.m.
Duane Street:
Saturday, June 1st (all day)
Families will receive their scheduled times prior to Welcome Day (the scheduled time is based on the classroom your child is assigned to). At this time you will also be told which site to report to for your child's Welcome Day (if your child is in the half day program and you are uncertain which site they will be attending due to their age). The class lists will be posted at each site on Welcome Day. We look forward to seeing you soon!
Diversity Statement
All member schools of ISAAGNY (Independent School Admission Association of Greater New York) admit students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded or made available to students at the school. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sexual orientation, national and ethnic origin in administration of our educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and other school-administered programs.
Financial Aid
The Washington Market School is a non-profit, non-sectarian Early Childhood Center. Our School actively raises funds every year for its Financial Aid Program. Tuition Assistance is awarded on the basis of financial need and funds availability. At the present time, our Scholarship Fund monies can only be allocated in partial assistance grants.
To assist our Financial Aid Committee, The Washington Market School subscribes to the School and Student Services (SSS). The SSS is an independent organization that provides need-based analysis to help private schools determine the financial need of their applicants. Families wishing to be considered for financial aid must submit a Parents’ Financial Statement to SSS by January 31st of the same year you expect your child to start school. To access this form and apply please visit: https://www12.student-1.com/SSSNet/.
The Washington Market School is also authorized to accept childcare assistance Vouchers from the NYC Administration for Children’s Services/Agency for Child Development (ACS/ACD). Please call the ACS/ACD directly at 311 for information. A family or parent who qualifies for a Voucher but is waitlisted must also submit a Parents’ Financial Aid Statement to the School and Student Services.
Questions regarding financial aid can be directed to Aida Torres-Schneider at Hudson Street (call 212-233-2176 or email AV.TSchneider@wms-nyc.org).

Tour Request Information
Parents interested in having their child(ren) attend The Washington Market School in September 2013 must submit the Tour Request Form online (this includes parents of siblings/legacies as well as parents who have attended a tour in the past). Some helpful guidelines for submitting the tour request form:
- Please submit a separate tour request for each child you wish to apply.
- You will receive an email confirmation once your request has been submitted. If you do not receive this confirmation please resubmit the tour request form.
- If you do not receive a call to schedule your tour within two weeks of submitting your request please call the Admissions Office to confirm that your request was received. We receive a large number of requests when the form becomes available and appreciate your patience!
The 2s Lottery
This year we will once again be holding a lottery for the WMS 2s program to determine which families will be offered a tour of The Washington Market School and the chance to apply. Each year we receive a large number of requests for this program, and due to limited availability and a growing number of sibling/legacies we feel it makes sense to hold a lottery for those wishing to apply.
Which ages are included in the lottery?
This year the lottery will be for all children between the ages of 2.00 and 2.08 in September 2013. This means that if your child was born on or between January 1, 2011 and September 30, 2011 he/she will be included in the 2s lottery for September 2013.
Children born after September 30, 2011 are not old enough to attend The Washington Market School for the 2013-2014 school year.
How do I enter my child in the lottery?
Parents interested in applying for the lottery should submit a separate tour request (see Tour Request section above) for each child they wish to apply. We will be accepting tour requests for children 2.00-2.08 as of 9/30/2013 from Wednesday, September 5, 2012- Friday, October 5, 2012. Any forms received after October 5, 2012 will not be able to be entered into the lottery. We thank you in advance for submitting your form within the requested time frame.
Are siblings and legacies included in the lottery?
Siblings and legacies wishing to attend WMS for the 2013-2014 school year must submit a tour request form, but they will not be part of the lottery system. Please see the Siblings and Legacies section below for more detailed information.
When will the lottery take place?
The lottery results will be emailed to all participants on Friday, October 12, 2012.
Information for families whose requests are drawn in the lottery:
- Families will be called within two weeks time (on or before October 26th) to schedule a tour of The Washington Market School.
- Application forms will be distributed during the school tour and are due by Thursday, January 31, 2013 in order to be considered for the 2013-2014 school year.
Thank you so much for your interest in our 2s program!
Siblings and Legacies
The application deadline for siblings and legacies is January 11, 2013.
Parents interested in enrolling a sibling or legacy* child for September 2013 are encouraged to email the Admissions Office as soon as possible. Please send all inquiries to:
*A legacy is defined as a child whose parent attended The Washington Market School.
Siblings and legacies do not need to participate in the lottery process. Please speak to the Admissions Office directly to find out about tour requirements for sibling/legacy applicants. This site will be updated in the fall with sibling/legacy application and contract deadlines.
