Ajanta Vora

Site Director, Hudson St.

Ajanta was born and raised in the city of Bombay, India. She graduated with a BS in Business Management from the University of Bombay (India) and a MA in Early Childhood Education from Queensland University of Technology (Australia). For over 20 years, she has taught and directed diverse early childhood programs across Bombay, Brisbane and New York.  In order to attain the best teaching practices, Ajanta’s philosophy has remained open and eclectic. Her philosophical journey has entailed the International Baccalaureate (I.B.)training at the American School of Bombay, to the Head Start program at Broadway Housing Communities to the Montessori and the Reggio Emilia approach at WMS. Ajanta sees herself as a facilitator to help children broaden their foundation in early learning. She believes it is important to empower children to independently explore, make choices and hone life skills in their immediate environment.  Along with her responsibilities at WMS she serves as a board member at the Columbia Greenhouse Nursery School. Ajanta gravitates mostly toward  yoga, swimming and surfing. As the Director at Hudson Street for the ninth year, she is pleased to welcome everyone at WMS.

Ajanta is responsible for maintaining a safe, productive and enriching environment for children at WMS attending the Hudson Street site.  She oversees the day-to-day operational aspects, ensuring that our school adheres to the standards required by the New York City department of Health/Bureau of Child Care.  Ajanta meets frequently with the teaching teams to discuss curriculum and child development needs; she also meets daily with the Head of School and weekly with the Child Development Specialist. Through ongoing classroom observations, she gains firsthand information about the children.  She also works with local colleges to recruit student teachers.  Feel free to contact Ajanta with any questions regarding Hudson Street.

Ajanta can be reached via email at: a.vora@wms-nyc.org .
