Gemma was born and raised in New York City. She received her B.A. in Anthropology from Stony Brook University, where she also studied Marine Biology and Environmental Science. Gemma has had the pleasure of working extensively with children in various nontraditional educational settings, ranging from the Riverdale Equestrian Center to the Long Island Aquarium and Exhibition Center to the beaches of Costa Rica's Osa Peninsula, where she taught local families about sustainable practices while working with a sea turtle conservation team. Gemma is currently pursuing her MSEd in Early Childhood General and Special Education, and she is thrilled to be joining the Washington Market School.
