Special Mug n Muffin: Understanding Child Sexual Development and Consent
November 9, 2017 @ 1:15 PM - 2:15 PM
Current WMS Parents are invited to join us for our November Mug n Muffin with special guests Rachel Henes and Meghan Wiedl from Hallways. Hallways’ Understanding Child Sexual Development and Consent workshop provides parents/families with information about the various stages of child sexual development from birth until adulthood and identifies strategies for communicating about and modeling consent for preschool aged children. Using the latest research and best practices in the fields of sexual health and sexuality education, we help parents to understand sexual development milestones and consent, with a focus on young children.
Often, parents/caregivers express concerns that their children are too young to begin talking about these issues. However, consent and healthy sexuality can be taught and modeled in age-appropriate ways from birth, and by beginning these discussions early and often, we teach our children how to recognize unsafe behaviors and how to demonstrate respect for others. In addition, by understanding sexual development and what to expect from children at different ages, we can help support them through this process and give age-appropriate and healthy messages.
Please note that due to space limitations, RSVP is required.
