Re-Introducing Julia Austen-Brown: Community & Events Coordinator

We’re so lucky to have Julia Austen-Brown as our Community & Events Coordinator. As a parent, experienced school volunteer, and expert event planner, Julia has a special set of skills that truly benefit the WMS community. From the upcoming street fair to celebrating special holidays (any many things in between), we take great satisfaction in knowing Julia is leading the charge.

Did you know she grew up in West London and coached gymnastics? To learn a little more about Julia, you can read the short interview below:

What do you do at WMS?
I am the Community & Events Coordinator, I organize all parent events, coordinate fundraisers, and am the main point of contact on the admin team for class parents

Where did you grow up? What was your childhood like?
I grew up in West London, United Kingdom. Outside of attending a girls’ day school, I spent most of my spare time in the gym as an artistic gymnast and in my late teens, I transitioned to gymnastics coaching.

How did you end up joining the WMS community?
I noticed a job posting on my local parent listserv and it was the perfect match for me! Both my children attended Reggio preschools, I am an event planner to the core and I have spent countless hours volunteering for my children’s schools over the years so felt I could bring a lot to the WMS team.

What’s your favorite thing about WMS?
As a parent of two ‘growing up too fast’ teenagers – I love being in an environment surrounded by young curious, uncomplicated minds. The community of parents and everyone’s willingness to help with events and fundraising makes for a very enjoyable role.

What’s the best memory you have from when you were in preschool?
I can barely remember pre-school :-0 but with that said, I loved art, and nearly anything hands-on and messy.
